Manuel Almunia Rallies The Troops At Arsenal

David Kifford, Goal.com
Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has shot an early warning to his team-mates, a good start is vital for the Gunners.

"It is crucial for everyone to get off to a good start," he told the Gunners' official website.

"In the beginning of last season no one team was strong enough to get a big advantage in points. But we will have to start well this season if we want to win the League."

Arsenal lost five of their first 14 league games last season and the deficit to the title challengers proved too big to claw back. Almunia does not want that to happen this season.

"A good start gives you confidence, stability, points and a nice cushion for the rest of the season," he added.

The Gunners will face a Champions League qualifier to confirm their European status in a draw that will, for the first time, feature no seeded teams. Potentially leaving the North London club with a tricky start to their season.

However, the Spanish stopper doesn't see this as an excuse for a poor start in the Premier League, continuing, "We have been playing a Champions League qualifying game for the last few seasons so it is nothing new for us. We will have our mind on it and we have to be prepared for it."

Almunia believes the return of Tomas Rosicky from long term injury and wing wozard Andrey Arshavin, who will begin his first full season, can have a real impact at the club. Arshavin will be eligible for European competition this season, after being ruled out last season due to his participation with former club Zenit St. Petersburg.

"They are going to help us, Arshavin has already helped us in the League but now he can help us in the Champions League because he is a great player," the Spaniard explained.

"He [Tomas Rosicky] has experience; in and out of the dressing room he is a senior player. When he comes back, when he is on the pitch, he will take responsibility to lift the team up."
